Why I Started This Blog

Learning to build a startup has been an adventure to say the least! Now with nearly 20 years in five different startups under my belt, I find that I have useful lessons to share. My hope is this blog will be a more scalable way to help other founders and entrepreneurial CEOs accelerate their learning curves as they build great startups.

Along my journey, there have been times when I wished I could learn in some better way than trial and error. I was not very successful. A few things helped:

  • Talking with other entrepreneurial CEOs and gleaning lessons from their stories
  • Listening carefully to a few select mentors and wise investors
  • Seeking inspiring insights from panels, blogs, books, and podcasts

Over time my ability to recognize patterns and reuse past solutions grew. I found that people now sought me out to try to figure out the art of building a startup. I loved sharing! However, now as I pour my passion into building my current startup, I cannot keep up with the constant stream of introductions and requests to meet for coffee to share a few nuggets of earned wisdom. Plus, the COVID-19 pandemic has made it much harder to connect in person for this season of life.

So, rather than just sharing useful nuggets in the few one-on-one conversations I can afford each month, I hope this blog enables me to help more people with a broader array of topics. This blog is my attempt to give back and pay it forward by sharing those stories and insights I turn to again and again. I want every startup to succeed! My hope and prayer is that what I write here will provide encouragement and insight to those who have the guts to dive in and build something new and unique in the world.

My intention is to build a series of posts based on my experiences related to building high potential businesses from scratch. Please feel free to ask questions in the comments. That will help guide me in sharing what will be most useful to you. Thank you for joining in with me at www.StartupCEOreflections.com where I will posting regularly! Sign up with your email to be notified of each new post.

Hi, David! Thanks for your comment. One thing that strikes me about your idea is that often those of us who have a few decades of experience under our belts are well-positioned to start something new. I have a few more starting tips on deck for future posts that might be helpful for you.

Hi, thanks for the comment. The information in my blog comes straight from my 20 years of experience as a startup CEO. I am not getting it from somewhere else other than from my direct experience. I hope that helps clarify my source.
